This book consists of photographs of fire taken at a festival in Suzuki’s hometown. The Otoh-matsuri festival has been held every February 6th since ancient times at Kamikura shrine in the mountains of Shingu-city, Wakayama. At night, white-robed participants climb the stone steps of the shrine and wait for the kindling of the sacred fire. Then they descend the steps with burning torches which are used to light the hearth fire. The festival celebrates the regeneration of fire on the lunar New Year. The book expresses the ever-changing nature of fire.
